Power Plant

Remember that first night?
You know the one.
Me and you and the Williamsburg Bridge.

But first there was the power plant.
Piercing the sky with its rounded silos.
Going daily unnoticed from below.

We saw it and claimed it as ours.
And I think from then on
We’ve run on its electricity.

Its power seeped in through our shoes,
First past the thin membrane of our soles
Until it coursed in our blood and sparked at our touch.
